Cyber Bullying is a fairly new problem. With the development of the internet, social networking, instant message, etc. all of the kids are now communicating through the internet. However, not always is this communication positive or harmless. When behind a keyboard I believe it gives a person a false sense of security. They feel more comfortable to say unacceptable things. Someone may not be strong enough to tease someone in public but behind a keyboard it is very easy when your not looking at the persons face. An example of this is happening right now in Memphis. At a private school, which cannot be named to protect the student, a case of cyber bullying is escalating. A 16 year old girl got into an argument at a party however, the argument didn't end at the party. People began posting on her twitter about her shape and size, the clothes she wears and her make up. At 16 years old this can be extremely hurtful. In this time period many girls are insecure and have low self esteem. When you have a bunch of people writing negative things about the way you look where everyone can see it can be emotionally disturbing. The family tried to turn to the school but the school is not taking action. They family says they simply don't know what to do to help her. The girl has been coming home from school crying, school should be a safe environment for learning. Many public schools have bullying programs in place or would probably take this matter more seriously. Are private schools not aknowledging the raising number of cases of cyber bullying? Ultimately the parents are removing the teen from the school and seeking help from the police. Is is sad that this is the measure that the family has to go to. The internet can be a dangerous place. As the girl says on the news interview some people aren't strong enough to take this type of criticism. There have been cases all over the United States that end in suicide or very emotionally trouble teen. The schools need to start taking responsibility and making sure that bullies are punished.
